On April 30, 2006, the CHFFA held its first annual Poker Run to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), Ronald McDonald House, UNC Jaycees Burn Center, and Habitat for Humanity. The motorcycle benefit ride was a great success for it’s first year. Citizens and firefighters from locals across the state came to Chapel Hill to join in the 115 mile ride. Approximately 70 riders burned up the roads from Chapel Hill Fire Station 2 to various fire stations throughout the area.
The riders were dealt a playing card at each of the five stops in efforts to create the best five-card poker hand. Various door prizes were given out at each of the five stops along the journey, along with a 50/50 raffle and a grand prize for the best five-card hand. The ride concluded at Chapel Hill Fire Station 4 where the members of Local 2580 were hard at work preparing food and refreshments for the riders.

In his first year as Poker Run Chairman, Brian Parker pulled out all of the stops for the event, including collecting door prize donations, food donations, and setting up escorts through the many dangerous intersections along the ride. Brian did an amazing job with this event and we hope that he is willing to guide us through next year’s Poker Run as smoothly as he did in 2006.
